Hello, I’m catesa.
Welcome to my corner of the internet, I’m happy to connect with you. I am an intuitive Bariatric nutritionist, intuitive eating and mindfulness enthusiast and long time practitioner, as well as someone who’s walked the challenging but transformative path of bariatric surgery, all processes which began more than a decade ago.
I embarked on a profound journey to repair a disordered relationship with food and body which came through years of dieting. It is a long story involving much therapy, surgery and leads us ultimately to the here and now. I made the very personal decision for a bariatric procedure when, in spite of my repaired relationship with self and food beyond diets, my weight was no longer shifting, and was “in the way” of living life the way I wanted, on my terms. After doing the research, and deciding against the medical teams suggestion of a bypass simply because “it’s the gold standard”, I chose instead what was right for me, a gastric sleeve. This contributed greatly but not fully in a loss of 70 kilograms (over 150 lbs). However, weight loss was my secondary focus, and I attribute the continued maintenance a decade down the line to having integrated the deep work, embodying the lessons in mindfulness, intuitive eating and practices of meditation and presence alongside a passion for life, embracing slowness and pleasure and my foodie nature. This path took me far beyond a focus on food and numbers to one rooted in self-compassion, self-awareness and honouring my unique needs. For me, sustainability and long term mobility was, and will always be the main focus . Weight & weight loss is generally the least interesting thing about me or anyone, people are so much more than that 1 thing, but for many, is 1 thing which can become all consuming. I understand that, deeply. This wisdom eventually lead me to leave a financially stable albeit miserable corporate accounting career to pursue a degree in dietetics and mindfulness full time at the age of 38, and I now enjoy guiding others in their own decision making process, trouble shooting new ways to tackle challenges they have encountered on their way through the often complex maze of weight, body image, internal and external blocks and fears, and also to consider Human Design as an added bonus in understanding ourselves.
As a patient, I understand the challenges and unique needs that come with bariatric procedures. How to integrate intuitive eating while respecting our bodies needs, to bridge the gap between worlds. That’s why I’m passionate about guiding others on their own transformative journeys, back to their own wisdom first, beyond any shadow, while also finding acceptance for what is.
My approach as an intuitive Bariatric nutritionist and mindful eating specialist is rooted in compassion, understanding, and empowerment through radical personal accountability. I believe in honouring the needs, challenges, and experiences of each individual because I recognize that true healing encompasses body, mind, and spirit and moreso than that, to give any perceived unacceptable parts of ourselves space to be experienced. We often require a multifaceted approach, and sometimes less conventional methods with creative solutions. There is no “one true way” and anyone trying to convince you otherwise is probably trying to sell you something. There is no gold medal for suffering your way to the finish line, so shut out the noise and choose what you feel is right for you! Because it’s nobody else’s business.
Whether you’re on the fence in considering bariatric surgery, navigating life post-surgery, are years down the road and feel a bit lost in struggle, or simply seeking support in your wellness journey whatever you ultimately decide is right for you, I’m here to walk alongside you. Together, we’ll explore the possibilities, intuitive eating practices, and mindfulness techniques to cultivate a deeper sense of well-being and fulfillment.
My Approach
It all begins with an understanding that there is more to you than weight, food, diet history, and in fact weight is generally the least interesting thing about people. We all have a history, struggles or challenges to overcome, interests, passions and goals in life. Maybe you are considering bariatrics but are not sure. Maybe you have been on diets your entire life and no longer know what feels right for you and have been lost in the diet maze. Or maybe you have had enough of it and want to return to your own intuitive wisdom about food, weight, and honouring yourself first. Whatever it is, I am sure you are ready, because you are here.
